The New York Times looks at Margrethe Vestager as she takes on her new role as the executive vice president for digital within the European Commission. In her role, Vestager will be able to advance rules on organizations’ data practices and the ways they protect themselves from cyberattacks. “Margrethe Vestager will be the most powerful regulator of big tech on the planet,” Clifford Chance Global Antitrust Group Partner and Co-Chair Thomas Vinje said. “She will have more leverage than anyone else in the world.” Meanwhile, the calls for federal regulators to monitor digital markets and the behavior of tech companies have continued to increase.
