The Madison City Council in Wisconsin approved an ordinance banning city agencies, including law enforcement, from using facial recognition technology or “information derived from a face surveillance system,” the Wisconsin State Journal reports. Using the technology to identify and locate “victims of human trafficking, child sexual exploitation or missing children” is permitted under the ordinance, maintaining the Madison Police Department’s current use of the technology.
