DPOs are responsible for other EU data protection laws besides just the General Data Protection Regulation, including at least parts of the ePrivacy Directive. The question is: What other legal areas should they understand well? One is EU intellectual property law, Thomas Shaw, CIPP/E, CIPP/US, writes in this article for The Privacy Advisor. After all, just like the GDPR protects the rights of data subjects for their personal data, intellectual property law protects the rights of the holders of patents, trademarks and copyrights.
