Following up with President Barack Obama’s call for a review of Big Data and privacy, Presidential Counsellor John Podesta wrote on the White House website that in addition to hearing from experts, the review group wants to hear from the general public. The group has already convened twice with industry leaders, technologists, civil society organizations, international regulators, academics and privacy and civil liberties advocacy groups and plans a final event in early April at the University of California at Berkeley. “Who do you trust with your data?” Podesta asked. “What data collection technologies give you pause? How are data and new technologies transforming your day-to-day life?” Podesta said public responses will inform the group’s final report next month.
