U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton is leading a movement to eliminate the top White House cybersecurity role currently held by Rob Joyce, Politico reports. Bolton and President Donald Trump’s national security team are considering abolishing the special assistant to the president and cybersecurity coordinator, a position created under the Obama administration tasked to manage the federal cyber strategy on areas such as election strategies and encryption. A former U.S. official said Bolton’s deputy, Mira Ricardel, is in favor of removing the role, saying she is considering taking on the position’s responsibilities herself while adding the likelihood of the White House going forward with the plan as “60-40.”
