Vice reports WhatsApp is resisting calls to remove a feature showing when a user is online and using the application. An administrator for one of several companies that monitors WhatsApp for cheating spouses said "it would be so much easier if they removed" the ability to view statuses of non-mutual contacts "for the privacy of their users, not for us." A WhatsApp spokesperson replied, noting positive feedback about the feature's usefulness and how it "provides a sense of closeness" between users.
