In a report for Toronto.com, former president of the Canadian Bar Association Vivene Salmon and Centre for International Governance Innovation Fellow Samantha Bradshaw discuss Canada’s internet regulations, including privacy, compared to other parts of the world. Salmon said Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act does not address cross-border data flows and “does not specify how social networks, online tracking, profiling, targeting, cloud computing, smartphone apps, geographic data and other online activities are regulated.” California, Germany and the EU are setting precedents for regulation, they said.
