The Washington State Legislature Senate Environment, Energy & Technology Committee held its first public hearing on a reintroduced version of the Washington Privacy Act Wednesday. Public comment from technology, retail and other industries, as well as consumer advocates, ranged from support from those who said the proposal could and should serve as a national model to those who raised concerns regarding the bill's granting exclusive enforcement authority to the Washington attorney general, a lack of private right of action for consumers and the preemption of local laws.
