Risk. conference in Austin, Texas, real estate mogul Alastair Mactaggart, in a keynote address, told a room full of privacy professionals the story of how the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 became a reality. Mactaggart runs through the entire story of the CCPA, from its earliest moment to the day it passed through the California legislature and finally when it was signed into law. Mactaggart discusses the future of the CCPA and the important role privacy professionals will play going forward. “You have an amazing responsibility,” Mactaggart said. “So much rests on your shoulders, and I want to remind you that it’s not just a job because if you are protecting privacy, you are protecting democracy.”
