The Vancouver Police Department announced it has suspended its recently launched Community Camera Registration Program over citizens’ privacy concerns, The Columbian reports. The department asked residents and business owners to register information about their privately owned camera systems in order to assist in law enforcement investigations. Vancouver Police Department Spokeswoman Kim Kapp said in an email individuals were concerned personal information may be leaked to the public through the program. “We decided to temporarily suspend the program so that we could modify the registration form in an effort to better protect the privacy of citizens while still collecting meaningful information for investigators,” Kapp said.
