Following two major breaches at the Utah Department of Health, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of the Inspector General entered into a thorough audit of the Utah DoH security practices, GovInfoSecurity reports. The findings are somewhat bleak: 39 “high-impact” weaknesses that “could adversely affect the state’s ability to obtain program funding from HHS.” To remedy the situation, Utah DoH must now work with the state’s department of technology services to implement “effective security management practices” and establish oversight procedures to ensure they are implemented.
