The U.S. Department of the Treasury issued warnings against making payments in ransomware incidents, The Wall Street Journal reports. In the recently issued advisory, the Treasury’s Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence said acquiescing to hackers' demands would be a violation of U.S. law and could result in strict penalties. Another advisory from the agency's Office of Foreign Assets Control said it is unlikely the treasury would issue a special license to facilitate a ransomware payment.
