CNN reports on the moves by U.S. state governments to use facial recognition to verify applications for and collection of unemployment benefits. As of July 19, 27 states are contracting technology from facial recognition provider ID.me and 25 states are actively using the software. American Civil Liberties Union Senior Staff Attorney Olga Akselrod said there's "a real question" as to whether there are "more accessible processes" states could turn to rather than tech "known to be biased" and has "other serious civil rights implications."
