U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Ranking Member Bill Cassidy, R-La., is soliciting stakeholder comments on potential changes to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act's privacy provisions. Cassidy cited the rise in "wearable devices, smart devices, and health and wellness apps" and their subsequent data collection while "much of this data is not protected by the HIPAA framework." The comment deadline is 28 Sept.
