A bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers has questioned an appeal by the U.S. Department of Justice in a case involving user data stored by Microsoft on a server in Ireland, CIO reports. Late last week, the lawmakers, including two Democrats and two Republicans, said the DOJ should instead be working with them on fine tuning the International Communications Privacy Act — a bill all four lawmakers co-sponsor. In their letter, the lawmakers note that technology companies can either "comply with the demand and satisfy U.S. law and risk violating the privacy laws of the host country, or challenge U.S. law enforcement's request in order to comply with the laws of the host jurisdiction." They add, "No one should be placed in this untenable situation."
