Nextgov reports on plans by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to use facial recognition technology to replace traditional travel documents at U.S. airports. The federal agency recently started a joint facial recognition initiative with the U.S. Transportation Security Administration at Los Angeles International Airport. The plan is to streamline the travel process and bolster security by matching travelers' facial image with travel documents. "The future of travel is going to be transformed by biometrics," CBP Office of Field Operations Executive Director of Planning, Program Analysis and Evaluation Colleen Manaher explained. The hope, according to Manaher, is to allow a passenger to "go from reservation to destination and back home again" without using a passport, RFID document or boarding pass.
