The University of Prince Edward Island suffered a data breach affecting 700 people following a mishap regarding an information request, CBC News reports. The breach leaked the information of individuals who looked for summer accommodations through the UPEI website dating back to October 2014, with the data posted on a upei.ca Web page. The data which included names, gender, email and mailing addresses, and telephone numbers, was available from March 15 to March 30, and could be discovered through a general search. The university said the breach occurred when an applicant requested to the UPEI Web team a view of what they’d submitted thus far. When the team adjusted the settings, the entire data set was made public. UPEI said only two people accessed the information, and emails were sent to all who were affected.
