An unidentified foreign nation may have hacked Anthem, compromising more than 78 million health records, investigators said in a U.S. News & World Report story. Data accessed included birthdates, Social Security numbers and employment information, the report states. "Cybersecurity experts say the data could help a foreign government build a profile of people they're targeting for espionage," the report adds. "Intelligence has become a data-mining exercise," said Gartner Research's Avivah Litan. "The intelligence officer of 2017 needs a lot of data to find targets and get to the targets that they're interested in." In the meantime, Anthem has pledged to make $260 million worth of security updates, as well as provide breach victims with credit protection.
