The University of Miami in Florida is denying claims it uses facial recognition technology as concern over its use on college campuses continues, The Wall Street Journal reports. Two UM students claim a camera-based surveillance system was used to identify them at a protest, while UM Spokeswoman Jacqueline Menendez said though campus cameras have facial recognition capability, it has not been utilized. U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., who has been vocal in criticizing the technology, said it “does not belong on our streets or on our college campuses.”
