University of Calgary researchers analyzed the sensitive information collected from smartphone apps, Global News reports. The researchers examined several smartphones that ran thousands of apps to see what data was gathered when it was downloaded and in use on the phone. University of Calgary Assistant Professor Joel Reardon said the results depended on the app but most collected users' location data, contact information and online metadata, all of which were sent to third party domains.“There’s no evidence that it’s being used for a malicious purpose, but there’s no evidence that it’s not,” Reardon said.
