A United Nations human rights expert urged the Human Rights Council that a model personal data protection system must balance right of privacy with economic integration. In a report to the HRC, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Privacy Ana Brian Nougrères, of Uruguay, said it was crucial for state and non-state actors to end discriminatory practices in fields of artificial intelligence, robotics, internet of things, virtual reality, augmented reality, biotechnology, blockchain technology and mass video-surveillance that could pose a threat to privacy.
