The Conservative Party has published its policy document ahead of the June 8 election, where it states the U.K. will penalize digital companies, social media platforms and content providers if they do not remove content from the internet in violation of the law, Reuters reports. "We will introduce a sanctions regime to ensure compliance, giving regulators the ability to fine or prosecute those companies that fail in their legal duties, and to order the removal of content where it clearly breaches UK law," the report states. The Conservative Party also wants to implement a law allowing the government to industrywide protocols for social media companies and communication service providers to support awareness and preventive actions to counter harmful internet activity.
