The U.K. government should open talks with the European Commission to secure an adequacy decision immediately, according to a report from a U.K. Parliamentary committee. The U.K. Parliament's Exiting the European Union Committee, in its report, also said the government should accept the jurisdiction of the Court of Justice of the European Union to help increase its chances of gaining adequacy status. Parliament members warned this kind of arrangement is unprecedented. "An adequacy decision is not automatic and, because this is the first time a Member State has chosen to leave the EU and then seek an adequacy decision, the timetable is difficult to predict. There is a risk that it could take longer than the transition period," the committee stated.
