U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May has officially triggered Article 50, which begins the process of Britain's exit from the European Union. May notified European Council President Donald Tusk of the U.K.'s intention in a letter Wednesday, noting, "The Government wants to approach our discussions with ambition, giving citizens and businesses in the United Kingdom and the European Union — and indeed from third countries around the world — as much certainty as possible, as early as possible." In a response, Tusk said the Council's "first priority will be to minimise the uncertainty" caused by Britain's withdrawal. The Council will convene April 29. Brexit brings with it concerns about data flows between the U.K. and the EU going forward. In a column for Diginomica, Nicky Stewart writes, "UK companies and organisations will need to think long and hard about where they keep their data because, at least for now, local may be a more certain bet than global."
