The U.K. government is working to implement new measures to ensure internet-of-things devices have the proper security measures in place when they are manufactured. The government worked with the National Cyber Security Centre, manufacturers and retailers for its Secure by Design report, outlining the steps needed to protect IoT devices, including making sure any transmitted sensitive data is encrypted, having unique passwords on every device, and creating software with automatic updates. The government plans to work with the involved parties to develop a new Code of Practice for IoT devices in order to protect users, while encouraging innovation with future technology.
