An email scam targeting 200,000 U.K. consumers was sniffed out by the National Cyber Security Centre before it affected any of the targets, FutureScot reports. The malicious emails used an address with a faux government domain, which the NCSC's automated response picked up on as part of the organization's program following the "Active Cyber Defence – The Second Year" report. "These are just two examples of the value of ACD — they protected thousands of U.K. citizens and further reduced the criminal utility of U.K. brands. Concerted effort can dissuade criminals and protect UK citizens," NCSC Technical Director Ian Levy said.
