The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Civil Rights completed three investigations and one matter before an administrative law judge related to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act compliance issues. Two of the cases involved individuals who sought their private health information through HIPAA’s Right of Access initiative that resulted in practices receiving fines. The other investigation and matter involved violations of HIPAA’s Privacy Rule by two practices.
