Nextgov reports that although U.S. President Donald Trump’s fiscal year budget for 2019 allocates a 4 percent overall increase to cybersecurity funding, it will also result in an 18 percent cut to the main cyber standards organization, the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The proposed cuts come as NIST works on updating its cybersecurity framework, which is mandatory for all federal agencies. The 4 percent increase will spread out across government agencies to result in additional cybersecurity funding at the Energy Department, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Veterans Affairs Department. Funding increases for cybersecurity will also be seen for the Department of Homeland Security and the Pentagon, and there will be a small bump in governmentwide information technology spending.
