U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration is urging state, local and tribal governments to establish experimental zones to test complex operations for remote-controlled aircraft, USA Today reports. The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy program is hoping that the memorandum Trump signed this week could spur drone development for a variety of purposes. With more than 1 million drone operators registered this year, the administration estimates the number of commercial drones could increase fivefold by 2021.
