Forbes contributor Runa A. Sandvik reports on the sudden news Wednesday that longtime encryption software company TrueCrypt announced it is no longer safe to use. The 10-year-old service had allowed users to encrypt hard drives and sensitive files and was famously used by NSA leaker Edward Snowden. At the top of its site, this message appeared: “WARNING: Using TrueCrypt is not secure as it may contain unfixed security issues.” Instead, the site contains instructions on how to migrate to Microsoft’s encryption solution, BitLocker.
