BBC News reports TikTok plans to build a data center in Ireland. The data center would cost $500 million and store European users' videos, messages and other information generated by the video-sharing app. It is expected to go into operation in 18 to 24 months. TikTok currently houses information in the U.S., with backups held in Singapore. "It's a symbol of our long-term commitment to Europe, and I think that's an important message for our users and our creators at this time," TikTok Director of Public Policy for Europe Theo Bertram said.
