As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, here are the latest stories on how the outbreak has affected privacy:

  • U.S. Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., announced he wrote a letter to Vice President Mike Pence outlining reasonable principles to be considered when planning a national contact tracing plan.
  • Reuters reports European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services Thierry Breton asked Apple CEO Tim Cook to find common ground with France on issues regarding privacy for COVID-19 tracking.
  • Also from Reuters, Austria and Switzerland have shown support for the contact tracing app being developed by Apple and Google.
  • BBC News reports Israel curtailed its use of cellphone tracking to enforce COVID-19 quarantine after a Parliament oversight group did not grant the program an extension.
  • Liechtenstein is deploying biometric bracelets to citizens to track existing cases of COVID-19 and the spread of the virus, the Financial Times reports.
