As libraries move to provide digital and e-services, privacy protection becomes even more important. In this article for The Privacy Advisor, Toronto Public Library Data Governance and Privacy Risk Advisor Sujoy Chatterjee, CIPP/C, CIPM, writes that as libraries make the shift to digital, they must also remain vigilant in their protection of patron privacy and expand the use of privacy professionals. “More awareness of how information can be collected by third-party vendors and a better understanding of access to digital services and emerging technologies would create a better-informed public that is aware of how their personal information is being used. The opportunity exists for the protection of privacy, and there is perhaps no better place in our community to preserve that than through the local library,” Chatterjee writes.
