Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw took responsibility for his agency’s role in sharing data with the secretary of state’s noncitizen voters investigation, Government Technology reports. McCraw explained a senior-level staffer should have been involved in the project and added, "I take full responsibility as the leader of the Department of Public Safety, recognizing [there are] some complex issues with our data. We're the experts on our data. If we had a senior person in place, I'm confident that that would not have happened. I can assure you of that." The admission follows sharp criticism from Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, who called McCraw’s testimony to a Senate committee on the issue “disturbing.”
