The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India called the existing framework for personal data protection by companies and service providers insufficient and recommended stricter rules be set in place to thwart data breaches, Reuters reports. In a statement, TRAI said, “All entities in the digital eco-system, which control or process the data, should be restrained from using metadata to identify the individual users.” TRAI provided recommendations to the Department of Telecommunication and also requested that the government provide a policy framework on regulation of devices, operating systems, browsers and applications.
