Technology companies are working to train voice assistants to understand users with atypical speech patterns, The Wall Street Journal reports. An Amazon Alexa integration scheduled to go live in the coming months allows people with speech impairments to train an algorithm to recognize their voice, Google is testing similar technology, and Apple is researching how to automatically detect if a user has a stutter. The U.S. National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders said approximately 7.5 million Americans have trouble using their voices.
