Target has told the AP that Chief Information Officer Beth Jacob has resigned her position and that the company has retained the services of Promontory Group to “help it evaluate its technology, structure, processes and talent” as part of an overhaul of its cybersecurity and privacy operations. Target has already announced it believes the pre-Christmas data breach that drew international attention was a major contributor to its fourth quarter sales falling 5.3 percent, which resulted in a 46 percent dip in profit. Now the company says it is looking outside the company for a chief information security officer and a chief compliance officer. Previously, information security functions were split amongst a variety of executives, but will now be consolidated under the CISO, the company told the AP.
