Cybersecurity company Symantec announced a new privacy research center in an effort to give consumers greater control over their personal data and online activity and provide governments and organizations with tools to help them handle data in a responsible way, Business Wire reports. Symantec Chief Executive Officer Greg Clark called privacy the “defining issue of this generation.” The center, which will be based in Saarbrucken, Germany, is a public-private partnership with the CISPA − Helmholtz-Zentrum (i.G.) research institution. Research initiatives are said to focus on developing best practices with respect to ownership, protection and governance of consumer data.
