Presenting a report for the Facebook-Schrems privacy case, Georgia Institute of Technology professor of law and ethics Peter Swire, CIPP/US, states the safeguards created by the U.S. for EU citizens are equal to, or even greater than those provided by the EU itself, The Irish Times reports. Swire presented the report on behalf of Facebook to the Commercial Court, stating the combination of systemic safeguards and remedies in the U.S. are both effective and adequate, while also touting the importance of standard contractual clauses. He also noted SCCs are necessary in a democratic society to preserve national security and to protect citizens' best interests. (Registration may be required to access this story.)
