Calls made to the Vårdguiden 1177 health care line dating back to 2013 were stored without encryption or password protection on an open web server provided by Swedish company Voice Integrate Nordic AB, Healthcare IT News reports. The data included 2.7 million patient phone calls. MedHelp, the company that runs the 1177 service, said the server has since been shut down, but it was also discovered that 55 call files had been illegally downloaded from seven separate IP addresses. Swedish Health Minister Lena Hallengren called the breach “very serious and startling” and noted that the breach was in violation of the country’s regulations and legislation.
