The Pew Research Center conducted a survey to determine the American public’s views on computer algorithms. The center polled 4,594 U.S. adults, with 58 percent of respondents stating they feel computer programs will reflect some level of human bias. The participants were asked about how they felt about algorithms in four different scenarios. One of the scenarios involved the use of a personal finance score to offer deals and discounts. In this situation, 26 percent of respondents said the use of algorithms was unacceptable as it would violate their privacy.
