A report from NASCIO takes a look at the background and roles of state chief privacy officers. NASCIO interviewed 12 CPOs at the beginning of 2019. Of those, "four had been in the position for less than a year, two for less than two years and four for less than four years." The report states eight of the privacy professionals were the first CPOs for their respective states. The report also found eight of the CPOs either had or were working toward earning an IAPP CIPP certification, numbers that ran consistent with the IAPP's 2014 "Benchmarking Privacy Management and Investments of the Fortune 1000" survey cited by NASCIO.
