Implementing an information governance network is the main priority for organizations in Australia and New Zealand, according to the 2019 Information Governance ANZ industry survey results. Respondents identified three key areas of IG projects: good business management practices; external regulatory, compliance or legal obligations; and internal technology restructuring or transition. More than 40% of 340 respondents said privacy regulatory changes, such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation and Australia Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, were the impetus behind their current IG projects. The study also revealed that IG has grown since the first IG survey in 2016. “IG appears to have matured since our initial survey, with over half assessing their IG programs as intermediate or advanced in maturity and a similar percentage ranking their IG programs as proactive rather than reactive,” according to the report.
