A Norton study has found that 6 percent of 500 surveyed small companies in New Zealand have opted for cyber insurance, while 18 percent have reported experiencing a cyberattack, Stuff.co.nz reports. Nine percent said they were weighing purchasing the protection in 2017. "It's a relatively new area of insurance," said Norton's Mark Gorrie. "It can be a business' safety net when all else fails." He added that some small businesses' misconceptions about cyber threats have hindered their haste to get cyber insurance. "People still see it as traditional viruses, you know, attacks a computer, you get it removed," Gorrie said. "It's actually organised crime, it's highly profitable, it's gone from a virus to a much bigger picture."
