  • New Zealand's Office of the Privacy Commissioner is investigating a ransomware attack of IT provider Mercury IT that potentially compromised data of multiple clients, including health insurer Accuro and the Ministry of Justice, GovInfoSecurity reports. The OPC said "urgent work is underway" to understand the full scope of the breach. 
  • The editor of a student magazine, a reporter and their source accessed University of Otago data including exam results, police vetting lists and academic integrity investigation reports due to an online loophole, Stuff reports. The university's Notified Privacy Event Incident Management Team said a "multifaceted approach," including securing data and notifying affected individuals, helped contain the incident.
