The New York Times reports "stalkerware" applications available in the Android store can track keystrokes and access a phone's location, photos, text messages and even record phone calls. "Thousands" of the apps exist in the Google Play Store and, to a "lesser degree," Apple's App Store — often presented as a way to monitor children — and become stalkerware when physically downloaded onto a victim's device with the intent of spying.
