Use of social-networking sites has been banned in Sri Lanka following recent suicide attacks that claimed at least 290 lives, The Washington Post reports. The blackout, which went into effect Sunday, has been a common practice by South Asian governments, according to the report, and is intended to cap misinformation across social media platforms. In a statement regarding the misinformation, Facebook said it is “working to support first responders and law enforcement as well as to identify and remove content which violates our standards" and that it is “committed to maintaining our services and helping the community and the country during this tragic time.” (Registration may be required to access this story.)
