A rapid rise in Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology is increasing the opportunities and risks across the board, and while “media and researchers have focused on the device, this is only part of the story,” writes Online Trust Alliance (OTA) Executive Director and President Craig Spiezle, adding, “in fact, in most cases, it is not about the device.” In this post for Privacy Perspectives, Spiezle discusses the IoT Trust Framework—a multistakeholder effort currently underway and spearheaded by Spiezle and the OTA—to help address the “need to review security, privacy and sustainability of these devices and services holistically.” The initial focus for the group? That will be the smart home and wearable technologies, he says.
