The Korea Herald reports South Korea's Personal Information Protection Commission banned the collection of facial images captured by thermal cameras deployed to curb the spread of COVID-19. The PIPC's ban stemmed from revelations that offices in Seoul were collecting and storing images from cameras without consent. The new rules around the cameras call for retention and transmission functions to be disabled or ensure the images and personal information are deleted within one day of collection if functions can't be turned off.
