A Chinese software developer collected more than 1.1 billion pieces of user data from Alibaba Group Holding’s Taobao shopping website over eight months, The Wall Street Journal reports. Beginning in November 2019, the developer used web-crawling software to collect information including user IDs, phone numbers and customer comments, according to a verdict by a district court in China’s Henan province. A spokesperson did not disclose how many users were affected, but said Alibaba is working with law enforcement after discovering the incident.
